What They Voted On

That the motion be amended by deleting all the words after the word "That" and substituting the following: “the House decline to give second reading to Bill C-15, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on November 4, 2025 , since the bill fails to: (a) implement a budget so Canadians can have an affordable life; (b) consider that every dollar the Liberal government spends comes out of the pockets of Canadians in the form of higher taxes and inflation; (c) bring down the deficit to the level Liberals promised in their last fiscal update, which promised $42 billion last year; (d) scrap hidden taxes on food, including the industrial carbon tax on farmers, the food packaging tax that adds billions in costs, and the fuel standard tax that adds 17 cents per litre to diesel and gasoline for farmers; (e) end the inflation tax by bringing down the cost of government instead of printing money to pay Liberal bills; and (f) include a plan for any oil and gas pipelines that would strengthen our nation’s economy and get our resources to market.”.

What This Vote Is Really About

This vote is about whether to move forward with Bill C-15, which is designed to put parts of the government's budget into action. Think of the budget as the government's plan for how it will spend money. Bill C-15 takes some of those spending ideas and turns them into actual laws. However, some Members of Parliament don't like the budget or Bill C-15. They've proposed a change to the vote, called a "reasoned amendment." Instead of voting to continue working on the bill, they want to stop it right away. They argue that the bill doesn't do enough to make life affordable for Canadians, control government spending, or support the economy. They also complain about taxes on things like food and fuel. If this change passes, Bill C-15 would likely be stopped. This means the government would have to find another way to put those parts of the budget into action, or those plans might not happen at all. Citizens should care because this vote affects how the government spends money and what programs get funded, which can impact their daily lives through taxes, services, and the economy.
